FOR RADIOLOGISTS. BY RADIOLOGISTS.

Enlitic

In February 2019, I was the first design hire at a clinical start-up specializing in bringing AI to radiology. The software was going to be incredible, but I challenged myself to make sure that clinicians actually wanted to use it. It needed to be a seamless experience, visually appealing and easy to use. I started my crash course in radiology, deep learning and data engineering. During my first eight months, I spent over 200 hours shadowing radiologists around the world, observing behavior and identifying needs and pain points.

With this knowledge, I rebuilt the brand from the ground up to reflect these new learnings, and be able to compete with the major players in the space. Working with a group of young, ambitious engineers, we brought the first AI platform to the clinical space, just in time for the largest Radiology conference in the world. The platform was a hit, with partners and investors flying in. With new partners came deployments and with investors came expectations. In the eight months following, I built a product team of six, and developed the interface and design system that would support our efforts at scale, as well as advance the early prototypes to a commercially, deployable product. I worked with the Business Development and Sales teams to understand their unique strategy of leveraging a global distribution network to sell our product. All of these efforts have cumulated to one of the craziest years of my life, and the launch of our platform, “Curie,” named after the famous Radiologist, Marie Curie.

THE DESIGN SYTEM
A Strong Foundation

There were a handful of challenges we faced as a creative and design team. One of them is operating as a small design team in a large engineering organization. You have to accept that you will not have control over every ui or ux update or tweak. You have to accept that you cannot be in every meeting and presentation.

In an effort to ensure sound UX & UI practices my team and I developed a responsive framework that unified multiple products and a few hundred workflows. This unification empowered an intuitive workflow and an efficient implementation process.

COMPREHENSIVE BRAND AUDIT
A strong brand binds us internally and it differentiates us externally.

There is no need to re-invent the wheel. There is much that can be learned from what has been done well and what has been done poorly. I led my team through a comprehensive brand audit that covered everything from brand guidelines, positioning, design systems, marketing materials, and websites.

SETTING THE TONE
Three Approaches

Following our audit and research cycle I led the team in developing three visual approaches. Approach one was developed to align with the best in class examples within healthcare. Option Two was  developed to create disruption and highlight the innovation opportunities within healthcare. Option Three was developed to align with Enlitic's approach to healthcare. We led with Option three and this approach will be rolled out in Q2 of 2021.

THE VISUAL IDENTITY
Brand differentiates and embodies the intangibles—emotion, context, and essence—that matter most to consumers.

When I started at Enlitic in 2019 they were using a logo they had purchased from a logo stock site. It wasn't awful, but it certainly wasn't great. My team and I did a number of explorations in an effort to simplify the emblem to its core.

THE DIGITAL STOREFRONT
A lens to view our collective progress with honesty and excitement

An effective website requires engaging content, clear messaging, and brand integrity. Can we deliver the best version of our platform and ourselves in a medium that demands information be conveyed in the blink of an eye? Can we offer an experience that is genuine to our current capabilities, but also hints at much more?
